hazey vibes

I've been a little obsessed with the hazey vibe of the neo-psychedelia genre for the past few months and today I decided to put together a mini playlist of some of my favorite psychedelic tracks

angus & julia stone

This song is so incredibly beautiful that it even sounds amazing acoustically! I was listening to the acoustic station on the way home night and the acoustic version came on. I fell in love with it - I could listen to it all day. It really doesn't have all that much to do with actual planes, but I can tell that this will be on my plane-travel playlist during my 30-hour trip to Vietnam next February!

snow day

Snow day today! It is too glorious for words and it couldn't come at a better time! I've been up to my forehead in work that was all due yesterday so having a snow day today was the perfect way to get some downtime. I know that you all know by now that "downtime" is code for obsessive photography the crap out of anything around me. So today it was the magnificent blizzard outside my window. I actually woke up this morning, opened my window, stuck my camera outside, and took pictures from my second-floor window! Then I decided that there were plenty of things to shoot on the ground too so I went outside. Let's just saw that my black, midlength UGGs had become white, thigh-high boots within a few minutes. I was beginning to get worried about Cammy getting too wet so I came inside; my lense was beginning to fog up anyway.

Also before braving the cold snowy day to get these photographs, I did I bit of much-needed video-editing. This video features Mikaela & Birgitta on a crisp fall day just after Thanksgiving. I love how long it takes me to edit my video projects. We also took a bunch of photographs which I have posted about before.

Brandon Flowers Concert

(Military jacket found at an army store in Maine, J.Jill sweater, Free People lace slip, MIXIN 06 boots, thrifted hat)

I hope everyone had an awesome Thanksgiving. I know mine was stuffed with stuffing, mashed potatoes, a too-small-for-16-people turkey and a HUGE apple pie!
The Killers have been one of my favorite bands for years and when Oakley told me that Brandon Flowers had made a solo album I got a little scared and little excited. The album ended up being great so we decided to go see him in Boston. Oakley and I spend the day after Thanksgiving in Boston. Before heading to the Boston House of Blues we went for sushi at Fin in Kenmore Square and explored in Boston until 5 when we got in line and met some pretty interesting characters including a college student in a bear hat named Max. We had a great time even before the concert started. I do love the city; Boston is definatly on my list of places that I want to live...after New York City that is. The concert itself was amazing. A band from San Deigo opened for Brandon called "The Tranfer." They ended up being really good so I bought their CD after the concert and even got to meet them (I even hugged the lead singer!) Brandon was even more amazing than I thought he was going to be. He played my favorites; "Only the Young," "Jilted Lovers and Broken Hearts," and "Crossfire." We stayed after the show ended to see if we could meet him before he got on his bus (which we are touching in the last picture) but unfortunatly he had skipped out and gone to dinner right after he got of stage. We were very disappointed about this, but we had an AMAZING time in Boston.

Plans for the night? Hmm...I'm finally going to see Burlesque with Lexii and Jacky tonight at 7 should be fun seeing as I have been dying to see this movie for weeks!

in my shoes + mixtape #2

(Jeffrey Campbell wooden clogs, Dr. Martens, Jeffrey Campbell for Free People studded oxfords & cork wedges, thrifted white moccasins, Kelsi Dagger wedge booties)

So over the summer I began my "cool" shoe collection; before this summer my shoes consisted of a pair of black, buckled UGG boots and a million pairs of converse, which I hardly even wear anymore. I got into Jeffrey's after looking for a pair of heeled clogs that looked like the ones from Chanel S/S 2010 and found these at Nordstrom. I loved them so much that I went on solestruck.com and found at least a million pairs of shoes that I love - I've been hooked since then.

These brown Docs are not my only pair - they're the only pair that I wear regularly. They're actually supposed to be my mom's, but she never wears them...because I wear them all the time! I got them in June and thought they were way too awesome to wait to wear until fall so I broke them in pretty fast in that hot, humid, New England weather. They look pretty old now - just the way I them!

I got the Jeffrey Campbell oxfords and the wedges in the same order on sale from Free People. The oxfords were supposed to be my school shoes (Catholic school with uniform) but I'm pretty sure that now that its cold enough to wear tights and flats I'll be wearing these more places than just school. I wore the wedges out a lot towards the end of the summer and also quite a few times to school on free dress days (days when we can wear whatever-the-hell we want) and I've gotten a bunch of compliments.

Alright so these "Walkables" are pretty much Minnetonka knock-offs. I actually have a legit pair - hmm probs should have included those...whatever I'm too lazy to add - but the sole fell off the first time I wore them out so I felt pretty jibbed. I fixed them with hot glue. ANYWAY I found these at Saver's for $8 which is WAY less then what I paid for the Minnetonkas. I've been wearing these a lot just because I love the beaded bird on the front and I really...don't have any white shoes.
*GASP!*

These black wedge booties are the newest edition to my collection...and have yet to be worn outside the house. I was SO close to wearing them out the other day BUT I found something cooler to wear...pretty sure it was the Docs...I'll wear these eventually, but I <3 them so it won't be a problem. I got them at Marshall's for a pretty good price along with a pair of knee-high boots, which I was also going to include in this post, but couldn't figure out to properly shoot them sooo. You'll see them eventually; they're the kind of boots that look better on than not.

Blue Blood Blues

These were taken at a Dead Weather concert at the House of Blues in Boston that I went to in July. Probably the concert that I was the most excied to go to. I said in one of my previous posts that I am an enormous Dead Weather fan so going to one of their concerts was an amazing experience. You should have seen me bouncing off the walls before I left for the House of Blues. It was kind of ridiculous how excited I was.

Jack White has been my hero since my Freshmen year (gee it sure doesn't sound cool to say that until you get past sophmore year...) anyway! I listened to the White Stripes first then the Dead Weather and then I moved on to the Raconteurs - the order was a little messed, but I've loved everything he's done. It was pretty huge to see my idol in person. I enjoyed that conert so much that I actually asked my mom if she would take me to their last show in NYC...but she said no :(

Mixtape #1

(Geek glasses from Newbury Comics & white dress from Aerie)

I think I might make this a weekly thing. I may not have mentioned it before, but music is a great interest of mine. I can't play an instrument or sing very well, but I love it just the same I currently have 1,543 songs on my iPod and I spend a lot of time in music stores and on iTunes. I usually have at least 100 songs stuck in my head in a single week so I think this would be a great way to share a part of my week with you guys that isn't strictly through pictures. I'm going to start uploading small playlist of 10 songs a week that I have been in my head the past week. I'll try to do this every Sunday in order to gear up for the week ahead.

I hope you'll enjoy it! I know I will!

1. Home by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros
2. Wolf by Cuddly Toys
3. Like a G6 by Far East Movement
4. Jacksonville by Brandon Flowers
5. Take Me Out by Franz Ferdinand
6. Comfort You by Eskimo Joe
7. Title Track by Death Cab For Cutie
8. Teach Your Children by Croby, Stills, Nash & Young
9. Pistol Grip by the Blakes
10. Blue Blood Blues by the Dead Weather

2009 ipod owners

#1

Jack White is my idol and when I found out he was starting another band with Alison Mosshart (lead singer of the Kills) I almost had a heartattack. The Dead Weather's Horehound came out a few days before I left for Europe and it completely owned my iPod on the plane and during those long bus rides in the country. I'm going to borrow a description of the band from Jack White and say that their sound sounds like a bear's three collective swipes. It's pretty hard for me to pick a favorite song on this album because the whole album is outstanding.

#2

Okay I know it's really lame to put up the New Moon soundtrack as one of my favorites albums, but I seriously listen to this like everyday. I found a lot of new bands that I like from this soundtrack. That is the point of being put on a soundtrack. The songs are mournful and kind of depressiong, but it works because that is what New Moon was supposed to be. My favorite song would have to be Roslyn by Bon Iver & St. Vincent. I'll never get sick of this song.

#3

Okay I know this didn't come out this year, but it still owned my ipod from the time I got it to now! I actually found the Kills a while ago, but I didn't really get into them until last June. This album is made up of VV's distored voice and hard guitar, making one of the most original albums I've heard this year. Keep On Your Mean Side was the Kill's first album and it was the first one I bought because I couldn't leave without it (and because it had the most songs.) My favorite song on the album is The Search For Cherry Red just for that sexy taste of danger in every syllable.

#4

I'm still trying to figure out what the yellow thing is...anyone know? So I found the Yeah Yeah Yeahs through Gossip Girl. Whoever does the music for that show is awesome. I would like to have coffee with her someday. ANYWAY! It's Blitz is my #5 album for the year. The whole thing just makes me want to dance. I can't figure out which song is my favorite. I've been listening to Heads Will Roll nonstop for the past 24 hours, but I love the slower songs like Soft Shock and Hysertic. The Yeah Yeah Yeahs were my spring break soundtrack.

#5

I've loved the Raveonettes ever since I heard Aly, Walk With Me last spring, but for some reason I wasn't so crazy about Lust. I remember I had just found the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and the Raveonettes were listed under the "Listeners Also Bought" heading. In And Out Of Control came out in October and I bought, not expecting another album from them for a while. I listened to it once and I was hooked, my favorite song being Gone Forever. I even got my mom into them.

#6

Obviously I am including soundtracks in this list =) Like I said in a previous post I loved Jennifer's Body and of course I bought the soundtrack. It had to perfect combination of pop and rock and I loved every song. The only song I didn't include on my iPod was Running After Chip, because there was an incident when I woke up in the middle of the night to this song and I totally freaked out. This is another album that I cannot find a favorite, I love them all.

Jeez I remember New Year's Eve last year. I went to the funeral of someone I barely knew, I really hate doing that, I don't know anyone. Then a huge snow storm broke out and my aunt was driving me and my cousins to a hotel for the night, because there was no way we were driving all the way home. So we were stranded at the Holiday Inn. It was fun we watched Elf for the millionth time. I can even remember the music that ruled my iPod at that point. The Foals, Bloc Party, Radiohead...and I'm sure there were others I just don't remember.

This year I was home with my mom and we watched Dawson's Creek and ate pistachio nut muffins. I can't believe how fast 2009 went! I have a ton of great memories from this year that I wouldn't trade (wow...CORNDOG!) and I had a great year.

Maybe I should actually make some New Year's resolutions.

1. work on flattening my stomach for bikini season
2. uh...study harder and get up my Geometry grade
3. spend less and save more
4. work on spending less time at home and more time out with my girls.
5. satisfy all of my creative needs (ex: grab and friend and use her as a model for my photographs!)
6. write more
7. work on getting my half turns perfect (a.k.a. kick-ass in modeling class)
8. Find more albums to own my iPod in 2010
9. crap i'm really out of ideas...text more...
10. straigthen my hair less and let it's curliness shine through!

Ladyhawke, bon iver, temper trap, the editors, the black keys...OH MY!

I was given a $25 iTunes gift card for Christmas last week and of course I spent it all in one go. Here's what I've bought so far. I still have about $2.00 left over so...

I found on article on her in a Teen Vogue from last year. I was bored so I checked her out and loved it. It sounds like indie dance music. Who doesn't like dance music? My favorite song on here has to be Magic the video is awesome. It reminds me a lot of old music videos from the  80's. The guy in there is pretty hawt too.

Bon Iver did a collaboration with St. Vincent on the Twilight Saga: New Moon soundtrack. The song was called Roslyn and it's my favorite song at the moment, I could listen to it over and over. I decided to look them up on Pandora and I loved them. I bought this a few days ago and I have yet to fully listen to it, but so far I really like Flume. The whole album is very sweet, it's the kind of music that I wish someone would write about me.

I just recently saw (500) Days of Summer and I loved it! The whole story was all very sweet. The soundtrack was great too, but I didn't buy it (I was running out of dough on my iTunes card [I had about $5.00 left on my card by then.]) I didn't buy the whole Temper Trap album either, just Sweet Desposition. The song just makes me feel happy. It practically owns my iPod right now.

Another Twilight-related band. I'm sorry they just put such good music on that soundtrack, I listen to it practically everyday! I loved No Sound But The Wind so of course I looked them up on iTunes too. I sadly couldn't buy the whole album, but I did buy An End Has A Start which is one of my favorites on the album.

I'm a huge White Stripes fan, so I made a station for them on Pandora and the Black Keys came up. I love their sound. Dan Auerbach has an awesome voice. I'm such a sucker for blues-rock bands, they just sound so cool. I only bought I Got Mine, which is yet another song that makes me happy. I'll have to be extra nice to my mommy so that she'll let me buy the rest of the album =)

Oh and...

I bought the Woman King - EP a couple weeks ago, but I think it's good enough to blog about. I've had Iron & Wine on my iPod for a while (Naked As We Came; Love And Some Verses; Flightless Bird, American Mouth) but when I looked up Bon Iver, Iron & Wine came up too and I really liked a bunch of the songs. I bought this because I heard Jezebel and I really liked it.

My taste in music changes a lot, but these days I've been really into Folk-rock.

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!
